Iredell County's COVID-19 Case Count Up to 277: Update

IREDELL COUNTY — The number of confirmed new coronavirus cases in Iredell County increased to 277 as of Tuesday evening, reflecting an increase of 37 known cases in the county in five days, according to new data released from the Iredell County Health Department.

The area of the county that has seen the largest increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in recent days is in south Iredell County, and includes zip codes for Mooresville, Davidson and Mount Ulla.

The 277 COVID-19 case tally is cumulative and, as of June 2, included an estimated 179 cases that are assumed recovered, according to the health department.

At least 86 Iredell County residents with the new coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, were isolating in their homes as of Tuesday.

In the past week the number of patients hospitalized in the county with coronavirus-related illness has seen a slight decrease, according to health department data. As of Tuesday afternoon, six county residents were hospitalized, down from seven hospitalizations reported late last week.

Six county residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19 since collection of data related to the outbreak began in March.

Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases have been confirmed as of 4 p.m. June 2:

North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 and 28678)

• 53 cases (up from 48 cases reported May 28)

Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)

• 102 cases (up from 88 cases reported May 28)

South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)

• 122 cases (up from 104 cases reported May 28)

The county's COVID-19 count includes confirmed outbreaks at nursing homes in Statesville and Mooresville. As of May 29, Autumn Care of Statesville reported three staff members and one resident had tested positive for the virus, as well as one staff member and one resident of The Citadel in Mooresville.

Health officials consider two or more cases at congregate living facilities, such as a nursing home or jail, to be an outbreak. As of Tuesday, state public health officials confirmed COVID-19 outbreaks in 93 nursing homes, 44 residential care facilities and 19 correctional facilities.

At least 29,889 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in North Carolina, and 921 deaths reported, NC Department of Health and Human Services said Tuesday.
