Iredell Man Arrested For Rape, Assault: Sheriff
Matthew James Williams was charged with rape and assault after the victim called 911, according to Iredell County's sheriff.

HARMONY, NC — An Iredell County man was recently arrested and charged with rape and assault after a woman called 911 to report the attack.
Sheriff deputies arrived at the home in Harmony around 2 a.m. Sept. 9 and located the victim and the suspect at the residence. The victim had several visible injuries and identified Matthew James Williams as her attacker, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.
The victim told deputies Williams sexually assaulted her earlier in the night. Responding officers also interviewed other individuals in the home and then made an arrest.

Williams was charged with felony attempted first degree forcible rape, felony second degree forcible sexual offence, misdemeanor interfering with emergency communications and misdemeanor assault on a female.
He was taken into custody and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. His bond was set at $750,000.
