Iredell Sheriff Deputy Killed In Accident Involving Fellow Deputy
Cpl. Bill Wood was killed in a tragic accident while driving his motorcycle when another deputy turned into him.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy is dead and another on administrative leave after a tragic vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon north of Statesville.
Cpl. Bill Wood was killed shortly after 1:30 p.m. July 18 on Taylorsville Highway while driving his motorcycle when an oncoming SUV — driven by his ICSO colleague Deputy Justin Betts — made a left turn in front of him and the two collided.
Wood, who had worked for Iredell County for more than two decades, was not on duty at the time, according to the Mooresville Tribune.

"This is a tragic accident," Iredell Sheriff Darren Campbell said, according to the newspaper. "Our thoughts and prayers are with both families."
According to WSOC, Betts reported the fatal accident to dispatch. He has been placed on administrative leave while the sheriff’s office conducts an internal investigation into the accident.
