ICYMI: Student Charged After Threatening To ‘Shoot People'
Witnesses told investigators they overheard the 15-year-old student threaten that "he was going to shoot people at the school."
IREDELL COUNTY — A West Iredell High School student is facing felony charges after witnesses told authorities he was overheard threatening to shoot people at the school.
Authorities learned of the April 10 incident after a parent of a student at the school reported the incident to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, according to Sheriff Darren Campbell.
West Iredell High School is located at 213 Warrior Drive in Statesville.

Deputies and investigators immediately followed up on the tip, interviewing the witnesses and the alleged suspect, ICSO said.
Based on the statements the 15-year-old will be charged with one felony count of false reporting of mass violence on educational property and has been referred to juvenile court authorities, ICSO said.

“We encourage all students in the Iredell-Statesville School district to report any threats made to or about our schools,” ICSO said. “Our School Resource Officers work very hard to ensure the safety of all students and staff in our schools. All threats will be vigorously investigated by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.”
