Iredell Woman Charged With Sex Assault Of Child

IREDELL COUNTY — A 39-year-old Harmony woman stands accused of a list of charges stemming from the sexual assault of a child in Iredell County, according to authorities.

Teresa Jane Gentry, 39, was arrested Feb. 21 and charged with felony statutory rape of a child, five counts of felony dissemination of obscene material to a minor and two counts of felony second degree sexual exploitation of a minor, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

The charges reflect offenses that occured in the area of Arrowbrook Road in Harmony over a nine month period ending in December 2018, ICSO said.

According to Sheriff Darren Campbell, authorities first learned of the alleged assault on Jan. 25, when a report was filed.

The victim told investigators that Gentry was a family friend and “also disclosed having sexual intercourse with Gentry,” ICSO said in a statement. As part of the investigation, detectives also collected numerous cell phone text messages that were sexual in nature, photos and images sent to the victim from Gentry.

A felony arrest warrant was obtained and Gentry was arrested Feb. 21. Her secured bond was set at $150,000.
