KKK Flyers Found In Mooresville Neighborhood

MOORESVILLE, NC -- KKK flyers emblazoned with “It’s OK to be WHITE!” were found taped to mailboxes and scattered on the ground in the Morrison Plantation community and have prompted a police investigation, according to reports.

Wednesday morning, a resident of the community saw the hate speech posters, which gave the web address for the Knight Party, and called 911 on Feb. 8 to report them, WSOC said.

According to the Mooresville Tribune, that 911 caller took down the signs, which had been placed in plastic sleeves to protect them from the rain, and destroyed them. MPD Deputy Chief Gerald Childress told the newspaper said he wasn’t aware of any other incidents occurring in the area.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, there are nearly 1,000 organizations that meet its criteria for being designated a hate group are currently active nationwide.

In North Carolina, there are 31 hate groups— from white supremacists to anti-LGBTQ organizations — that are active, according to the organization that tracks them. The SLPC website has an interactive map showing the location of hate groups state by state.

Community resident Kerri Novack told WSOC she was surprised Morrison Plantation had been targeted for white supremacist messaging. “We have a bunch of different ethnicities in this neighborhood so I don't see why anyone would target this neighborhood," she said.
