Lowe’s Lays Off 125 At Mooresville Headquarters
Lowe's corporate laid off about 125 tech workers at its headquarters today in Mooresville and is sending the jobs to India.

MOORESVILLE, NC -- Lowe’s home improvement stores, headquartered in Mooresville, laid off about 125 information technology workers Wednesday morning.
Most of the job duties will likely be sent to Bangalore, India, where the company already has about 1,000 tech employees, The Charlotte Observer initially reported.
The cuts fall on a series of layoffs in the past year: 100 corporate tech jobs slashed in October, about 2,400 full-time store level jobs eliminated in January and 500 corporate-level jobs cut in February, the newspaper said.

The layoffs come as the home improvement retail giant -- the third largest employers in North Carolina -- faces intense economic pressure. “The retail landscape is being reshaped by advances in technology and shifts in consumer behavior, and as a company, we face those challenges against a backdrop of traditional and new competitors,” it said in a June 7 internal email to employees.
“As we continue to look for ways to operate more efficiently and leverage our global talent, we decided to move the responsibility of some of our IT back-office work to our team in Bangalore,” Lowe’s spokesperson Karen Cobb said in an email to Mooresville Patch.

The company says it will provide transition support for laid off employees that will include severance pay and outplacement resources.
