Man Rams Family Trailer Using Car With 3 Kids Inside: Sheriff

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — An Iredell County man was arrested recently and charged with numerous child abuse and assault crimes after he rammed a vehicle in which three children were in into the family mobile home several times during a domestic distubance, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, identified as Jose Gabriel Reyes, 22, was intoxicated at the time, ICSO said.

According to a police report, deputies responded to 140 Chesire Ridge Road in Statesville Dec. 5, where they found Reyes and another family member near the incident location. “Reyes appeared to be intoxicated, and was bleeding from his right arm,” ICSO said.

Deputies said that they determined Reyes, after drinking alcohol, had gotten into a verbal altercation with other family members inside the home and left with three children, who he put in the vehicle.

“Reyes then rammed the residence three different times causing damage to the residence and to his vehicle,” ICSO said. “While Reyes was ramming the residence with his vehicle that one of the three children received minor injuries during the incident.”

The child’s injuries did not require medical attention, the sheriff’s office said.

Reyes was arrested at the scene and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with three counts of misdemeanor child abuse; three counts of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon; two counts of misdemeanor injury to property; and misdemeanor simple assault. His secured bond was set at $10,000.
