‘Minor Flooding’ Possible In Iredell County Ahead Of Weekend Rain

Heavy rain continues throughout the piedmont of North Carolina, as a flood warning was issued for parts of the Charlotte metro region.

MOORESVILLE, NC — The weekend promises to be a soggy one throughout the Charlotte metro area as heavy rain prompted a warning from government forecasters that minor flooding could be seen in the piedmont region, including Iredell County.

Friday morning, the National Weather Service also issued a flood warning for central Mecklenburg County through 3 p.m. Friday. Some areas of Mecklenburg County received between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain since 8:45 p.m. Thursday evening, NWS said, adding that locations that could experience flooding include northeast Charlotte, the Charlotte Motor Speedway and University of North Carolina- Charlotte campus.

"Widespread rain, with perhaps a few embedded thunderstorms, will continue over the area today. Locally heavy rainfall, and perhaps minor flooding, will be possible," NWS said in a Feb. 22 hazardous weather outlook bulletin.
