Mooresville Cashier Scores $400K Scratch-Off Lottery Ticket Win
A cashier in Mooresville who recently won $400,000 playing a lottery scratch-off ticket says she will use the money for retirement.
MOORESVILLE, NC — A cashier from Mooresville is $400,000 richer after recently playing — and winning — a scratch-off lottery ticket game, according to state lottery officials.
“This is such a relief,” said Judith Sanchez, who won by playing the Pay Me! Scratch-off ticket that she purchased at the Circle K on North Main Street. “I’m still going to work, but now I can breathe a little knowing that I finally have something to put away for retirement.”
Sanchez said she stopped at the convenience store on her way home from work when she decided to buy the ticket.

“When I saw that I matched the numbers I couldn’t believe it,” Sanchez said. “I took it up to the clerk and said, ‘I think something’s wrong here. Does this match?’ When she said it did, I was in shock. I was in complete shock. It’s the only way to describe what I felt. I still feel that way.”
North Carolina Education Lottery began selling the $5 ticket in August, offering four top prizes of $400,000. Two top prizes remain.

Sanchez received her prize money Sept 17, and after required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $283,001.
“It feels wonderful,” Sanchez said when she got her check. “It’s been such a whirlwind. I keep thinking I’m going to wake up from a dream.”
