Here's how to safely get rid of expired or unused prescription drugs, including opioids, in Mooresville at this upcoming event.
MOORESVILLE, NC — Mooresville residents who want to safely dispose of old or near-empty bottles of prescription medication will have an opportunity to do just that this weekend. Mooresville Police Department is hosting a Prescription Pill Take-Back Event Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Walmart Supercenter on Norman Station Boulevard.
Prescriptions may also be dropped off at the Mooresville Police Department's drug drop box, located at 750 West Iredell Avenue, 24 hours a day.
"In the past year, 64 drug overdoses were reported to Mooresville Police Department," MPD said in a statement. "Studies show most abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. Eighty percent of heroin users report abusing prescription pain medicines prior to turning to heroin."
