MOORESVILLE, NC — Members of Mooresville Fire & Rescue Swiftwater Rescue Team have deployed to coastal North Carolina to assist in water rescue efforts.

After a day in Kinston and a night at the Comfort VFD Mooresville Fire Rescue Swiftwater team split in half and placed in Trenton and Pollocksville to ride out the storm and help the great citizens of eastern North Carolina,” Mooresville Fire & Rescue said Thursday.

Rescue operations around the coastal region were expected Friday as the category 1 hurricane continued on its northern track. Friday morning, as Hurricane Dorian officially made landfall near Hatteras, an estimated 800 residents remained trapped on Ocracoke Island from rising storm surge and flood waters as the storm continued to batter the Outer Banks and northeastern North Carolina with heavy wind and rain.
