MOORESVILLE, NC — Financial impacts from the coronavirus pandemic has created a surge in need among families struggling to buy food, according to a Mooresville food pantry.
"Demand has increased by 164 percent for access to groceries," Lara Ingram, executive director of FeedNC, told Patch in an email.
FeedNC food pantry and soup kitchen, located at 275 S. Broad Street in Mooresville, is now serving about 1,000 people each week. Many of the families who have submitted applications to access groceries from the food pantry have been laid off, or are unable to safely access grocery stores, Ingram said.

On Fridays, the organization offers a drive-through pantry that does not require an approved application, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
"Our community has come together during this crisis to provide support and resources to the increasing number of families in our area that are concerned about food security," Ingram said.
