Mooresville K-9 Officer Shot, Killed During Routine Traffic Stop
A procession of law enforcement vehicles escorted Sheldon's body from a Charlotte hospital Sunday morning, MPD said.

MOORESVILLE, NC — A Mooresville officer was shot and killed during a traffic stop along West Plaza Drive Saturday night. The suspected gunman fled the scene but was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
According to Mooresville Police Department, K-9 Officer Jordan Harris Sheldon, 32, pulled over the alleged gunman shortly after 10 p.m. in a routine traffic stop.
“The suspect in the shooting fled the scene and was later located in a nearby apartment,” MPD said. “Once police entered the residence, the suspect was confirmed dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Sheldon was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte but was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
A procession of law enforcement and public safety vehicles escorted Sheldon’s body Sunday morning at 10 a.m. from the Charlotte hospital, located at 1600 Garden Terrace, MPD said.

Sheldon had served with MPD for six years.
