Mooresville Kindness Closet Anonymously Helps Those In Need

The little shed of supplies is located in Academy Street Park and provides struggling families with items not covered by food stamps.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Area families in need have a new resource for help with basic necessities thanks to the efforts of a Mooresville family volunteer group. Little Helpers of Mooresville have launched the Mooresville Kindness Closet at Academy Streek Park, proving free toiletry items anonymously.

“This closet full of kindness is giving those in need the necessities for everyday life and giving this community an opportunity to help their neighbors,” project coordinator Anne Mautner told Patch. Mautner, who said she came up with the idea after reading about a similar project in Cornelius, runs the service group Little Helpers of Mooresville.

“I contacted Mooresville Parks and Rec and they said no there wasn't one,” Mautner told Patch. “I had a feeling that if our Little helpers could raise money (through selling lemonade) to build the Closet, then we could get the community to sustain it.”

The little blue shed is located in the park at 601 South Academy Street and is filled with items such as toiletries, school supplies and kitchen products that cannot be purchases with food stamps or obtain through other local services. The items are new, unused and unopened, and do not include food or clothing.

“Those who are struggling can come take what they need anonymously at their own convenience during park hours,” she said.
