Mooresville Man Charged With Exploiting Underage Girls: Sheriff

MOORESVILLE, NC — A 25-year-old Mooresville man was arrested and charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

In mid January, authorities received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a suspect was “uploading images, along with videos of juveniles, and prepubescent females, which were nude or engaged in sexual acts to an on-line Cloud Account,” ICSO said.

Data attached to the account included a phone number that belonged to Casey Alan Smith, 25, of Barkland Lane in Mooresville.

Detectives with the special victim’s unit obtained search warrants for Smith, and seized electronic devices and gathered more material from the cloud account, which included images and videos of underage girls, the sheriff’s office said. During the course of the investigation, Iredell authorities learned Smith was also a suspect in a February statutory rape investigation King, North Carolina, near Winston-Salem.

On Friday, Feb. 28, Smith was arrested charged with four count of felony third degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He was also charged with felony statutory rape of a child; second degree sexual exploitation of a minor; and felony indent liberties with a child. A secured bond for his release was set at $76,000.
