Mooresville Man Charged With Trying To Steal Neighbor’s Mustang
Christopher Preston Staton, 26, reportedly told deputies he was taking the Ford Mustang "with or without the owner's permission."

MOORESVILLE, NC — A Mooresville man has been charged with felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle after he was caught trying to take his neighbor’s Ford Mustang Friday.
According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to Eastport Lane in Mooresville March 15 by someone reported a suspicious person walking down the street, talking to himself and carrying a hatchet.
When deputies arrived at 127 Eastport Lane, they found Christopher Preston Staton, 26, standing in his neighbor’s yard behind a Ford Mustang.
Staton lives at 131 Eastport Lane, ICSO said.

“After speaking with the victim and a witness, it was determined Staton was attempting to steal the Ford Mustang,” ICSO said.
The witness told deputies Staton had been inside the vehicle earlier.

“When Staton was asked about this information, he told deputies he would take the vehicle with or without the owner’s permission,” ICSO said.
Staton was arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. His secured bond was set at $3,000.
