Mooresville Man Points Gun At Deputies, Child In Standoff: ICSO

Nolan Thomas was arrested Saturday after a standoff with Iredell County deputies, who were responding to a domestic dispute at his home.

MOORESVILLE, NC β€” A Mooresville man was arrested over the weekend after a standoff with Iredell County sheriff’s deputies responding to a domestic dispute at the home. At one point, the man pointed a gun at deputies and also his own young child in his arms, according to a sheriff’s statement.

The April 28 incident in the home in the 160 block of Timberland Loop in Mooresville began when a woman in the home told deputies that Nolan Thomas was inside the home with their two young children, intoxicated and had weapon.

β€œDeputies attempted to make contact with Thomas, however he refused to come out of the residence,” the sheriff’s department said Monday.

Thomas eventually emerged from the home with his child in his arms, pointing a gun at deputies then at the child, then retreated into the home.

Deputies negotiated with Thomas through a loudspeaker, coaxing him out of the home alone and unarmed. He was taken into custody and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center.

Thomas has been charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer by pointing a gun, misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun, misdemeanor resisting a public officer and misdemeanor interfering with emergency communications.
