Mooresville’s Acting Police Chief To Assume Top MPD Position
Ron Campurciani was named acting police chief after the former chief was placed on leave in June amid an internal investigation.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Six months after assuming the position of acting police chief, Ron Campurciani has accepted the position of Chief of Police for Mooresville Police Department, the Town of Mooresville said Wednesday. The change is effective Dec. 18.
Prior to joining MPD, the 34-year veteran of law enforcement served most recently as executive director of the Western Massachusetts Police Chief Association, as well as chief of police for West Springfield, Massachusetts.
The news comes about a month after the town’s former police chief, Damon Williams, resigned from the position. illiams, who had served as chief of police since 2016, was removed from his post in early June and placed on paid administrative leave amid an ongoing internal investigation based on complaints of a hostile work environment, WSOC reported at the time.

The decision by town officials to place Williams on leave was made June 3 and at the recommendation of the outside agency that had conducted about 70 interviews while investigating the claims, the Mooresville Tribune reported. The investigation was launched in February amid complaints of a hostile work environment within the police department "and then branched into other areas," the newspaper said.

Campurciani, who has served as activing police chief since June 17, notified MPD employees of his descision to accept the position in an internal email Tuesday night.
“Tonight, after careful consideration, I have accepted the offer by the Town Manager to move forward as your permanent Chief,” the email said. “I look forward to working with all of you as we move this department forward.”
