Mooresville School District Makes Weather Call For Wednesday

As the National Weather Service predicts freezing rain Wednesday, Mooresville Graded School District has made a call regarding schedules.

MOORESVILLE, NC — As the National Weather Service predicts freezing rain moving into the region Wednesday morning, Mooresville schools will operate on a two-hour delay, Mooresville Graded School District officials said Tuesday afternoon.

The chance of rain begins late Tuesday night, NWS said Tuesday morning. "A few locations could see a light glaze of ice develop on some surfaces," it said in a weather bulletin. Heavier rain is expected by Wednesday evening, with as much as 1 to 2 inches falling in some areas.

“While the weather outside is absolutely beautiful right now, the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Iredell County from midnight until noon tomorrow, MGSD said. “The NWS has forecasted a high chance for freezing rain throughout the early morning hours when buses would normally be running morning routes. Therefore, we have decided for the safety of our students and staff to run on a 2-hour delay tomorrow, Wednesday, January 23.”

According to the school officials, the weather will also be reevaluated early tomorrow to see if school would need to be canceled for the day.
