Mooresville School System Makes Decision About Jan 18 Classes

BREAKING: weather forecast indicate temperatures will remain in the teens overnight, providing little chance for snow to melt.

MOORESVILLE, NC -- Children in Mooresville and Iredell County, rejoice! Mooresville Graded School District and Iredell-Statesville Schools said they will remain closed on Thursday, Jan. 18 due to icy road conditions plaguing county streets.

“The snow has arrived and with freezing temperatures overnight tonight, there will be roads throughout our district that will be potentially hazardous tomorrow,” MGSD said. “Therefore, we have made the decision for the safety of our students and staff to cancel school again tomorrow, Thursday, January 18, 2018. Maintenance and custodial staff should report to work as soon as safely possible. All after-school activities and BASP are also cancelled.”

The decision to cancel school comes as government weather forecasters predict overnight lows will be around 15 degrees in the region, with a 30 percent chance for more snow. Thursday, however, Mooresville will begin to see a warming trend when the daily high is expected to reach about 38 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
