MOORESVILLE, NC -- Classes have been canceled for the third day in a row in Mooresville and throughout Iredell County as the region continues to dig out from this week’s snow storm.
School officials with Mooresville Graded School District said they made the call after checking area road conditions throughout the county Thursday afternoon. “There are several areas throughout our district that continue to have snow and wet areas,” MGSD said in a Facebook post.

“Due to freezing overnight temperatures, we are in a black-ice advisory through 12:00pm tomorrow. Taking all of this into consideration, we have decided to cancel school tomorrow, Friday, January 19, for all MGSD students,” the district notice said. The decision means students will have an even longer weekend, as there is no school on Monday, Jan. 22 due to a teacher workday.
The cancellation, however, is for students only. “Maintenance and custodial staff should report to work as soon as safely possible, and all other staff should report to their designated location at 10am or when safely possible,” MGSD said.
