Police Charge Teen In Death Of Mooresville High Student

Gavin Sharpe died after falling out of a truck during a service project at MHS. Police have charged another teen in his death.

MOORESVILLE, NC — A 17-year-old Mooresville teen has been charged in the death of a 15-year-old Mooresville High School football player who died after falling out of a truck earlier this month on the school’s campus.

On Aug. 3, Gavin Sharpe was participating in a service project at the school when he fell out of a truck in the parking lot by Coach Joe Popp Stadium and hit his head. He died two days later.

Sharpe was a rising sophomore at the school, according to his obituary. “He had a contagious smile, loved everyone, and never met a stranger,” it said.

"He was one of the best people you'll ever meet," said Isaac Riffle, a teammate of Sharpe, according to the Mooresville Tribune. "He was one of the hardest workers and off the field, hands down."

The 17-year-old was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle by criminal summons on Aug. 16, according to a Mooresville Police Department spokesperson.

“We are not releasing name or photo of minor,” the spokesperson said.
