Search Underway For Mooresville Group Home Runaway: ICSO

Kelsie Jane Prevatte, 16, reportedly ran away from a Mooresville group home Sunday. Here's where authorities think she might be headed.

MOORESVILLE, NC — A search is underway for a 16-year-old girl who ran away from a Mooresville area group home and may be headed to Virginia, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Kelsie Jane Prevatte, 16, was last seen June 30 when she was seen leaving the group home on foot, according to authorities.She is the second teenager to be reported missing from a Mooresville area group home in June.

Prevatte then “went to a nearby business, where she borrowed a phone from an employee there,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. From that borrowed phone, she then sent text messages and called several people.

A patron at the business gave her money, which she then used to take a taxi to the Statesville area, ICSO said. Authorities said they now have reason to believe she may have since traveled to the Winston-Salem or Greensboro area, or possibly headed to Virginia where she has family.

Prevatte was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, turquoise fleece pajama pants, and black Vans shoes. She is described as 5-foot, 10-inches tall, 210 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, the sheriff’s office said.

ICSO said that anyone with information on Prevatte’s whereabouts is asked to please contact the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office at 704-878-3100 and/or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.
