Suspect Shoots At Woman, Child After Kidnapping: Iredell Sheriff
Tyrell Montice Tate was arrested after allegedly shooting at the victim with a gun Iredell County's sheriff said was stolen in Mooresville.

MOORESVILLE, NC — A woman and her three-year-old daughter were shot at as their vehicle was chased by a man who allegedly assaulted and kidnapped her Wednesday, according to Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell. The victim called 911 reportedly as the suspect was “hanging out the window of his vehicle,” with the gun pointed at her car, leading officers to his location, Campbell said.
The dramatic chain of events began Oct. 3 in the 1100 block of King Street in Statesville when the suspect, who has been identified by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Officer (ICSO) as Tyrell Montice Tate, “fired a handgun, assaulted and kidnapped the victim before she was able to get away,” according to a report.
The victim called 911 and reported the shooting at that the suspect was following her in another vehicle.

Sheriff deputies and officers from the Statesville Police Department responded, and spotted both the victim and suspects vehicles in the intersection of East Broad Street and Brierwood Road. She stopped her car when she saw the officers, and she and her daughter were taken to safety as officers attempted to apprehend Tate.
“The suspect refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit started,” the ICSO report said. The chase ended, however, when Tate turned back onto East Broad Street, which was congested, and crashed into a retaining wall in front of Mitchell Community College.

Tate was taken into custody and during a search of his vehicle, deputies found a 9mm handgun that had been reported stolen in Mooresville and a small amount of cocaine, ICSO said.
Tate was charged with felony second degree kidnapping, misdemeanor assault on a female, felony assault by strangulation, misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun, misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, felony possession of firearm by a convicted felon, felony possession of cocaine, felony possession of stolen firearm, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia,
misdemeanor assault on a child under 12 Years Old, and misdemeanor communicating threats. Additional felony fleeing to elude charges are also expected from the Statesville Police Department.
Tate is also wanted on outstanding warrants for two counts of felony probation violation, ICSO said.
His secured bond was set at $300,000.
