Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest For Iredell Couple: Sheriff
A traffic stop near Interstate 40 led to the discovery of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to authorities.
IREDELL COUNTY, NC — A recent traffic stop led to the arrests of two Statesville residents after deputies found a stash of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to an ICSO report, a Chevrolet pickup driven by Dustin Shane Bates, 30, was stopped July 28 for a traffic violation at the intersection of Old Mocksville Road and Interstate 40 in Statesville.
During the stop, the officer determined that Bates was driving with a suspended driver’s license.

A drug detecting canine was brought to the scene and “alerted on the vehicle,” ICSO said. Deputies searched the truck and found methamphetamine, as well as drug paraphernalia.
Bates and his passenger, 23-year-old Katelin Nicole Ryan, were arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. They were charged with felony possession of methamphetamine; felony maintaining a vehicle for the use of a controlled substance; and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bates was also charged with driving with a revoked license.
Bates’ secured bond was set at $10,000 and Ryan’s was set at $7,500.
