Virginia Man Charged After Report Of Mail Theft At Post Office
A witness told police they saw two men stealing mail from a mailbox outside the Mooresville Post Office Friday morning.

MOORESVILLE, NC — A Virginia man was arrested and charged after a witness told police he and another suspect were spotted stealing mail from an outdoor mailbox at the Mooresville Post Office before dawn Friday.
According the Mooresville Police Department, the witness reported seeing the two suspects take mail from the exterior mail drop at the postal facility located at 123 Institute Street. The witness gave police a description of the suspects’ vehicle, which responding officers located on Maple Street.
As officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the two suspects ran from the vehicle near the intersection of Center and Maple streets, according to reports. One suspect ran to the the parking lot of Mooresville High School.

“The one who ran toward the school was taken into custody this morning in the vicinity of the school after a staff member reported a suspicious person to the police around 6:10 a.m.,” Mooresville High School said in a statement to parents Friday morning. “The suspect on our campus was not armed and there was no indication that the other one is armed.”
James Banks of Virginia Beach, Virginia was arrested, however the second suspect has not yet been located, police said.

Banks was charged with misdemeanor larceny; obstruct and delay a law enforcement officer; misdemeanor possession of stolen property; and misdemeanor damage to property.
