Woman Hit, Killed By Car While Crossing Plaza Drive Identified
Officers at the scene said the driver was not speeding or impaired. The Iredell County District Attorney is now reviewing the case.
MOORESVILLE, NC — Mooresville Police Department have released the name of a woman killed Friday evening when she was struck by a vehicle as she attempted to cross East Plaza Drive on foot.
The June 26 incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the 100 block of East Plaza Drive near the Aldi shopping center, in an area of the highway with no lighting, police said.
According to an MPD report, Bethis Armida Villatoro Velasquez was hit by a vehicle driven by Dana Yewell Frank Santiago of Salisbury and pronounced dead at the scene by Iredell County EMS.

"She was transported to Lake Norman Hospital and an autopsy was performed by the medical examiner," MPD said.
The driver, who stayed at the scene, was interviewed by investigators.

"After evaluating and interviewing the driver, neither impairment nor speed was a factor in this crash," MPD said. "This investigation has been turned over to the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office for review."
