'Armed, Dangerous' Murder Suspect Nabbed After Standoff

Santario Miller, 23, was charged by Charlotte police for the murder of Shalamar Venable last month near Uptown.

CHARLOTTE, NC — An ‘armed and dangerous’ murder suspect wanted in Charlotte for the slaying of a woman last month was taken into custody Friday morning in Gastonia after a standoff with officers, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Earlier this week, CMPD identified Santario Miller as the suspect wanted in the shooting death of Shalamar Venable, who was shot in the head near Uptown Charlotte on the morning of May 21. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the 4 a.m. call in the 900 block of North Tryon Street, and found the female victim with gun shot wounds. She was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with life threatening injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.

On June 29, CMPD investigators learned Miller was in a house in Gastonia, and requested assistance from Gastonia Police. “After a standoff, Miller eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident,” police said.
