North Raleigh Sensory Friendly Trunk or Treat Oct. 24 - Triangle on the Cheap (triangleonthecheap.com) — Families in Raleigh, especially those with kids who need a gentler Halloween experience, are invited to a free Sensory Friendly Trunk or Treat at Bloomwell Autism Therapy in North Raleigh on October 24. Expect decorated trunks, games, crafts, sensory activities, and indoor play, all designed so children can participate at their own pace and comfort level.
2. Register to advocate for plastic pollution prevention with NC lawmakers! Sept. 25 in Raleigh, NC (change.org) — Raleigh teens and adults can join a free advocacy day at the legislature on September 25 to push for plastic pollution reduction with North Carolina lawmakers. Participants get virtual training on September 20, then meet officials in person, learning how to speak effectively with representatives while connecting with other Triangle-area youth leaders.
3. Wake schools push family engagement to improve attendance, student success (wral.com) — Wake County school leaders met with families at Leesville Road High School in Raleigh to tackle chronic absenteeism and school safety, including recent weapons incidents. The summit focused on helping parents feel more connected to schools, strengthening communication, and building partnerships with local businesses and nonprofits to better support students across Raleigh and the wider district.
4. Cary teens pushed for tougher vaping rules. Now the town could expand its ban (newsobserver.com) — Cary leaders are set to vote Sept. 24 on a major expansion of the town's smoking rules that would ban vaping and smoking on most town property and in enclosed public places. Local teens, inspired partly by Raleigh's new tobacco-free ordinance, have pushed hard for tougher restrictions to reduce how often young people see vaping as normal behavior.
5. Elle Dawson 16:45, Broughton Boys Sweep adidas XC Challenge (milesplit.com) — A major high school cross-country meet at WakeMed Park in Raleigh saw Broughton's boys dominate and several Triangle-area runners post standout times. Local athletes from schools like North Raleigh Christian, Cardinal Gibbons, and Holly Springs turned in personal bests, while North Lincoln's girls and record-setting runner Elle Dawson highlighted statewide talent competing on a familiar Raleigh course.
