2. Skate Night at Dix Park Oct. 30 — free, but registration is required (triangleonthecheap.com) — Raleigh residents can roll into a free Skate Night at Dix Park's Chapel on Friday, October 30, 2026, with three separate sessions including an adults-only slot. Registration opens October 16 at noon and is expected to fill quickly, with optional $10 skate rentals and only cashless payment methods accepted.
3. Hundreds gather in Raleigh for Walk to End Alzheimer's, raising thousands for research and support (abc11.com) — Nearly 2,000 people packed downtown Raleigh for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's, raising more than $460,000 toward a $500,000 goal for research and support. Local participants shared emotional stories of parents and relatives affected, while organizers highlighted how many North Carolinians live with the disease and encouraged families to use the Alzheimer's Association's 24/7 helpline.
4. CJ Bailey keeps NC State steady in win over sloppy Louisville (statenews.net) — NC State fans in Raleigh saw quarterback CJ Bailey throw for 373 yards and two touchdowns as the Wolfpack edged Louisville 31–28 at home. The win, keyed by three fumble recoveries turned into 18 points, helped NC State avoid a late collapse and even its ACC record.
5. FEMA awards North Carolina more than $21 million for disaster recovery, resilience projects (abc11.com) — Announced from Raleigh, FEMA is sending more than $21 million to North Carolina for storm recovery and future disaster-mitigation projects that could benefit communities across the Triangle. The package includes major public assistance reimbursements plus grants to improve drainage, buy flood-prone properties, and support firefighter staffing, safety, and equipment at institutions like Duke University and other agencies statewide.
