1. Raleigh ends loose-leaf pickup and starts weekly yard waste collection (newsobserver.com) — Raleigh has permanently ended its loose-leaf curbside vacuuming and switched to weekly pickup of lime green yard waste bins, which began September 8 without changing collection days. Residents now must bin, bag, or mulch their leaves instead of piling them at the curb, as the city aims to clear streets and storm drains and redeploy crews to other services.
2. RPD arrest man in nightclub shooting that injured 4 in downtown Raleigh (newsobserver.com) — Raleigh police have arrested a 33-year-old Gaston County man in connection with an August shooting at Club Alive in downtown Raleigh that injured four people. The club, which had also seen a stabbing earlier that month, surrendered its alcohol permits and is among several venues recently closed over violent incidents while police continue investigating.
3. Hey, hey, hey, what's going on? Linda Perry plays surprise show at this Raleigh shop (newsobserver.com) — Linda Perry surprised fans with an impromptu acoustic set inside The Newsagent's used book and record store in downtown Raleigh after her scheduled concert was postponed. Crowds already in town for Raleigh Wide Open, plus fans driving from North Raleigh, packed the shop to sing along to "What's Up?" just a few feet from the singer.
4. Raleigh-area wedding photography company ordered to pay nearly $1.7M (wral.com) — A Raleigh-area wedding photography company, Holly Christina Photography, has been ordered to pay nearly $1.7 million after more than 220 couples complained about undelivered photos and videos. A Raleigh woman says the FBI has contacted her about the now-closed business, while a judge's default judgment directs roughly $600,000 to customers and over $1 million in civil penalties.
