1. Waynesville welcomes familiar face as new town manager: 'It truly is a homecoming' (wlos.com) — Amie Owens is back in Waynesville as town manager, taking office Nov. 4 as the town continues working to secure FEMA funding for Helene recovery. The former assistant town manager returns after more than five years leading Franklin and plans to develop a new strategic plan with the town council.
   

2. Get help navigating the maze of veterans benefits and resources (tncontentexchange.com) — Veterans and their families can get help applying for VA benefits at Haywood County’s veterans office in Waynesville, from disability compensation to education and medical care. The office is inside the Senior Resource Center at 63 Elmwood Way, and staff can be reached at 828-452-6634.
   

3. Veterans Council gets a second wind in Haywood County (themountaineer.com) — After the Haywood County Veterans Council considered dissolving, Waynesville American Legion commander Scott Maddox began recruiting members to keep it going. He's seeking younger veterans to sustain its advocacy and community service. The council meets at 5 p.m. every third Monday at the American Legion, 171 Legion Drive in Waynesville.
   

4. Hugh Rogers DAR Chapter dedicates time and dollars to support and honor veterans (themountaineer.com) — Veterans buried at Waynesville's Greenhill Cemetery are among those honored through the Hugh Rogers DAR Chapter's year-round service. Members help place wreaths there in December and contribute toward Christmas gifts for veterans at the Charles George VA Hospital, alongside volunteer work supporting veterans across the region.
   

5. Honor Guard salutes veterans with a final military send off (themountaineer.com) — The Haywood County Honor Guard needs more volunteers to keep providing free military honors at veterans' funerals. Drawn from Waynesville's American Legion and VFW posts, the 17-member group needs 10 people for each service. Families can arrange honors through their funeral provider or contact Jody Keller at 828-550-8018.
