2. Neighbors raise safety concerns over proposed Living Hope location (wwaytv3.com) — Wilmington residents are pushing back against a proposed move of the Living Hope Day Center to the former Sorrow Drowner Tiki Bar on Dock Street, citing safety issues and nearby schools. Neighbors questioned the building's suitability, potential impact on property values, and unanswered operational details, while city staff clarified that council has no direct role in approving the relocation.
3. UNCW researchers secure $1M in federal grants to study cell aging, binge drinking (wect.com) — Researchers at UNC Wilmington have landed more than $1 million in federal NIH grants to advance biomedical and behavioral science right here in town. One project will explore how energy-managing proteins help cells resist aging and disease, while another examines how social rejection influences binge drinking in young adults to better shape prevention strategies.
4. 'Commuter Challenge' encourages alternative transportation this October (portcitydaily.com) — Wilmington-area commuters can join the 2026 Commuter Challenge from Oct. 5–18, logging trips where they carpool, bike, walk, telework, or ride transit instead of driving alone. Participants and teams can win prizes from local favorites like Thalian Hall, Cameron Art Museum, Wilmington Railroad Museum, Wilmington Water Tours, and Airlie Gardens by tracking their alternative trips.
