New guidance explains what's legal on streets, sidewalks, and trails, and urges parents to research models carefully so children don't end up with vehicles that could bring tickets or impoundment.
   

2. Fargo Police outline falling crime rates, request 8 new officers to support growth (kfgo.com) — Fargo residents are seeing major crimes drop more than 12% this year, with especially sharp declines in property crime and overdoses, but domestic assaults remain stubbornly high. Police Chief Travis Stefonowicz and Mayor Josh Boschee say community partnerships are key, and the chief is asking for eight more officers in the city budget to keep up with Fargo's growth and prevent burnout.
   

3. Fargo Finance Committee navigates public safety staffing and social service funding in 2027 budget discussions (valleynewslive.com) — Fargo officials are weighing how to fund up to eight new police positions while debating whether to keep giving about $500,000 a year to local social service groups in the 2027 budget. Commissioners also discussed trimming the city vehicle fleet and set September 23 and 28 meetings where community organizations must make their case before final budget votes.
   

4. 11-Year-Old Mows Lawns to Buy Headstone for Father Buried in Unmarked Grave (hypefresh.com) — A South Fargo sixth-grader spent the summer of 2016 mowing lawns to honor the biological father he never met, raising money for a headstone. After he caught the attention of Dakota Monument in Fargo, the company donated the stone and let him help design it, inspiring him to launch a small lawn and snow business to help other families afford memorials.
   

5. Fargo man arrested for headbutting, threatening police officers (kfgo.com) — Fargo police arrested a local man early Saturday after he allegedly threatened officers with a machete, tried to punch them in an apartment hallway, and later headbutted an officer at the hospital. Court documents say the incident began when officers responded to a south Fargo apartment, where the man's fiancée reported he was withdrawing from kratom and wanted detox.
