2. Wahpeton tobacco retailers post 90.9% compliance rate in underage sales checks (wahpetondailynews.com) — Wahpeton tobacco retailers largely passed recent underage sales checks, with 10 of 11 stores refusing to sell nicotine products to youth, according to local health and police officials. The Richland County Health Department urges all city retailers to keep tightening ID checks and staff training, stressing that preventing nicotine use before age 21 sharply cuts long‑term addiction risks for Wahpeton teens.
3. Lois Myllykangas, 88 (tricountynews.com) — Longtime Wahpeton High School alumna Lois Lorraine (Bohn) Myllykangas, 88, is being remembered after her passing on August 21, with services this Friday in Kimball, Minnesota. Lois grew up in Breckenridge and Wahpeton, attended North Dakota State College of Science, married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton, and went on to build a close-knit family life in rural Kimball.
