4 Ohio Companies Announce Layoffs, Furloughs This Week
One company announced plans to layoff nearly 270 Ohio employees.
COLUMBUS, OH — Four companies announced layoffs or furloughs this week, according to filings with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.
HMSHost provides food and drinks at airports. The company is laying off 269 employees between its locations at Cleveland Hopkins Airport and John Glenn Airport. The majority of the layoffs will take place in Columbus, with 225 employees being laid off.
All 269 HMSHost employees who are being laid off were previously furloughed. The company said it has to make the "difficult decision" to convert those furloughs to permanent layoffs.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated the travel and restaurant industries and, unfortunately, HMSHost sits at the crossroads of both. Never in the history of aviation and the hospitality industry, have we experienced such catastrophic customer traffic declines," the company said in its filing with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.
