5 Ohio Companies Announce Layoffs, Furloughs This Week

Five Ohio businesses announced plans to either furlough or layoff employees this week.

COLUMBUS, OH — Five major Ohio companies announced layoffs or furloughs this week, according to filings with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

The Ascena Retail Group — which operates stores like Lane Bryant and Catherines — will layoff 188 employees in Columbus. The company is also laying 164 employees at a factory in New Albany. Layoffs at both facilities will take place between between Oct. 2 and Oct. 30.

Ascena previously announced it was shuttering 38 Justice stores in Ohio and one Ann Taylor location in Cincinnati.

Disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the company said the last few months negatively impacted "meaningful progress" toward getting the company back on track financially.
