Coronavirus In Ohio: 7,875 New Cases, 59 Deaths

The Buckeye State saw a dip in new COVID-19 cases, deaths and hospitalizations on Monday.

COLUMBUS, OH — As the first doses of COVID-19 vaccine are administered in Ohio, the state is still confirming new cases and deaths related to the virus.

The Ohio Department of Health announced that 7,875 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours. That's actually down significantly from the state's average of 9,871 new cases per day.

At least 59 Ohioans died from COVID-19 complications in the past 24 hours, the state health department confirmed. Since the start of the pandemic, more than 7,500 Ohioans have died from COVID-19 complications.

Hospitalizations and intensive care admissions related to the virus were also down on Monday. Gov. Mike DeWine has previously said he hopes the state's most-recent COVID-19 surge is flattening, or evening beginning a gradual decline.

However, the governor said Ohioans must continue to follow the Stay Safe Ohio guidelines to keep the virus from spread.
