• International Day of Peace celebration to feature live performances, diverse cuisine in Akron's North Hill neighborhood (cleveland.com) — Akron's North Hill neighborhood will host a free International Day of Peace celebration this Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at People's Park. Residents can enjoy a community walk, live music, dance, Qi Gong, diverse international food, cultural storytelling, and the True North Awards honoring people and organizations improving North Hill.

• 2026 State of the County address warns of 'significant headwinds' (signalakron.org) — Summit County's State of the County address in downtown Akron highlighted new health, safety, and community empowerment funds drawn from opioid settlements, along with major fiber and housing investments. Officials also warned of federal cuts to food aid and staffing, growing housing pressures, and rapid technological change, while showcasing new AI tools and legal aid efforts serving Akron-area residents.

• We've planted 25 Christian schools, another 30 on the way! (ccv.org) — A new Christian school, St. Gregory Classical Academy, is opening in Akron as part of a broader effort to plant church-based schools across Ohio and the country. Organizers say the school will offer a Scripture-centered, classical education using existing church space to keep costs down. Several other new Christian schools are also launching in nearby Ohio communities.
