📰 News we're reading
• Southeast Ohio organizations aid stray cat population (thepostathens.com) — If you're worried about stray cats in Athens County, local groups like the Athens County Humane Society, All Nine Lives, and Feral Ladies Cat Rescue are actively trapping, neutering, vaccinating, and rehoming animals. They run regular low-cost clinics, build outdoor shelters, and ask residents to report colonies rather than taking cats in, offering clear contacts for help in both Athens and Hocking counties.

• Dog of the Week: Rose (athensindependent.com) — Rose, a playful 3-year-old Rottweiler-Shepherd mix found on South High Street in Athens, is waiting at the Athens County Dog Shelter for an active local family to adopt or foster her. Staff say she's energetic, smart, and loves outings, and you can schedule a meet-and-greet or apply to foster through the Friends of the Shelter Athens website.

• Perpetrators sentenced in Athens cyber theft (athensindependent.com) — Athens city officials say two people have been sentenced in federal court and ordered to pay full restitution after a 2024 email scam diverted $722,000 meant for the Stimson Avenue fire station project. The city has already recovered $405,000 through insurance and recovered funds, and a new cybersecurity policy with stricter payment procedures is now in place to better protect public money.
