3 More Avon Lake Residents Test Positive For Coronavirus

There are now at least 19 Avon Lake residents who have contracted COVID-19, according to Mayor Greg Zilka.

AVON LAKE, OH — Over the weekend, health officials confirmed three new cases of the coronavirus in Avon Lake. There are now at least 19 residents who have contracted COVID-19, according to Mayor Greg Zilka.

The three new local cases are a woman in her 60s and two men in their 50s. Both men are medical professionals, Zilka said, and they appear to have mild cases. They are recovering at home.

Avon Lake residents are being asked to continue distancing themselves from other, washing their hands regularly and for 20 seconds at a time and to follow basic hygiene.

"It is important to observe the protocol: wash your hands, observe the six foot rule, cover your mouth if you need to sneeze or cough and limit your trips to essential ones," Zilka said on Friday.

In late March, a woman in her 80s died while being tested for COVID-19, Zilka said.

"Our hearts go out to her family," Zilka said.
