Avon Lake Eaglets Get Names: Maroon And Gold

AVON LAKES, OH — A pair of eaglets near Redwood Elementary School have been given names by the student body. A school-wide vote led to the dubbing of the eaglets as Maroon and Gold. Both eaglets hatched in early April 2017.

Maroon and Gold, the Avon Lake Schools colors, received nearly 60 percent of the vote. The other finalists in the naming contest were Lincoln and Washington, Scarlet and Gray, and Brave and Courage.

Maroon and Gold's parents are Stars and Stripes. The duo laid three eggs and shepherded two eagles into the world in 2017 and 2016. Both years saw the loss of one of the baby eagles.
