Avon Lake Regional Water Replaces Water Tower Bowl
A new $8 million bowl has been lifted onto the Avon Lake Regional Water tower. The new tank will hold 3-million-gallons of water.

AVON LAKE, OH — A brand new 3-million-gallon water tank bowl was lifted onto the Avon Lake water tower on Monday. The new bowl replaces a 500,000 gallon predecessor. The new water tower bowl should be operational by the end of 2017.
The project will cost $8 million and is being paid for using a 0-percent interest loan from the Ohio EPA. The loan will be repaid through water rate increases, which will amount to approximately $4 per customer per year.
“Though it will still be about six more months before it is operational, we are excited to see this 3-million-gallon tank raised into place," Todd Danielson, chief utilities executive for Avon Lake Regional Water, told Patch in an email. "It will mark the conclusion of another chapter of improvements that make the water system even more resilient and reliable — a benefit both to our customers and the economy.”

The water in the tower will be used for emergency situations when regular distribution of water to customers is disrupted. The Avon Lake Regional Water draws water from Lake Erie, pumps it through a cleaning facility, and then distributes it to customers.
The new tower will fill its 3-million-gallon load using water pumped through the facility and into the bowl.

Avon Lake Regional Water contracted with MWH Constructors for the overall project. Landmark Structures built the tank.
The decision to replace the 500,000-gallon bowl was made in 2016. Work on replacing the bowl started near the end of 2016. A spokesperson for Avon Lake Regional Water said the project will improve the water system's resiliency and capacity.
