Big M Pizza Opens In Avon Lake

The restaurant opened Monday in a remodeled space on Lear Road.

AVON LAKE, OH — On Monday afternoon, city officials and the owners of Big M Pizza celebrated the restaurant's grand opening. The pizzeria fills the space left open by the moving of The Breakwall Food & Spirits.

Big M Pizza is located at 153 Lear Road, in a walkable neighborhood near the Electric Boulevard intersection. The restaurant has given the space a new look and feel after six short months of construction. A new room has been added to the front of the restaurant, on the side closest to Lear. The interior has been given a makeover, with the kitchen and dining spaces being re-oriented. A new counter runs almost to the front door, making it easy to pick up pizza.

The "M" in Big M stands for Mulberry's, which is the restaurant and bar in the Flats where Big M owners John Teel and Maureen Labrosse got their start.

“We started perfecting our pizza about three years ago at Mulberry’s,” said Labrosse, “and we wanted to see if it would hold up in this great neighborhood in Avon Lake. Big M is a family friendly pizza bar/restaurant with hopes to have the best food around. Pizza for sure is our signature dish, but we want to have a great burger and egg rolls. We also have a gluten free crust we hope takes off. We chose Avon lake for its great environment and we want to bring a unique touch!"

Big M Pizza is located in a district that Avon Lake city officials have identified as a "focus area." Ted Esborn, the city's economic development director, said Big M Pizza could be the jumpstart to reinvestment the city needs.

“Big M is the perfect kind of small business for this friendly, walkable neighborhood that has been home to valued local businesses in Avon Lake for decades,” said Esborn. “We have heard from Avon Lake residents that locally owned businesses in a walkable setting is something they would like to see."

The restaurant's location was formerly occupied by Breakwall, which moved to the Drug Mart plaza near Walker and Moore.
