Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka said the majority of new local cases are among residents in their 20s.

AVON LAKE, OH — Five new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Avon Lake last week, according to Mayor Greg Zilka.
Lorain County Health Commissioner Dr. David Covell said the new cases were confirmed last week. Four of the affected residents are in their 20s and the fifth is a health worker, age 53, Zilka said in a note to the community on Tuesday.
"The younger ages are consistent with numbers around the state and nation. Very concerning," Zilka said.

Ohio is seeing a surge in new COVID-19 cases. On Tuesday, the Ohio Department of Health confirmed an uptick in deaths, hospitalizations and intensive care admissions related to the virus. Gov. Mike DeWine has been urging Ohioans to wear masks and to again diligently follow health and safety guidelines.
"COVID-specific hospital utilization is approaching levels not seen since the earlier peak of the pandemic in April," DeWine said earlier this week. The resurgent outbreak is hitting southwest Ohio particularly hard, the governor said.

You may be wondering if the increased cases are simply because Ohio has worked so hard to ramp up our testing. Certainly, some is due to that, but not entirely. You have to look at positivity. pic.twitter.com/gVd83QInl6
