Heritage Avon Lake Presents Tea With Mrs. Lucy Webb Hayes
Avon Lake's local history organization will host re-enactor Alice Wills as she plays the wife of 19th U.S. president Rutherford B. Hayes.

Highlights from the eventful life of native Ohioan and former First Lady of the United States Lucy Webb Hayes (1831-1889) will be featured by re-enactor Alice Wills, who brings her portrayal of Mrs. Hayes to Avon Lake Public Library (32649 Electric Blvd.) as part of the HAL Presents series. This free program, "Tea with Mrs. Lucy Webb Hayes," will be held Monday, Jan. 8, at 1 p.m. in the Library's Waugaman Gallery.
"Mrs. Hayes", who was the first First Lady with a college degree, will discuss, among other topics, her life in the White House and during the American Civil War, her views on temperance, and her courtship with and marriage to Rutherford B. Hayes, also from Ohio, who served as the 19th United States president.
