Man On Motorized Bicycle Hit By Car In Avon Lake: Police

Investigators believe an intoxicated 18-year-old may have hit a man on a motorized bicycle in Avon Lake.

AVON LAKE, OH — An Avon Lake man is accused of hitting a person with his car while driving intoxicated, police announced.

On Tuesday, at 3:15 a.m., an 18-year-old Avon Lake man was taken into custody by police in Sheffield Village. Investigators said the man was accused of driving intoxicated. The man's car had been damaged and looked as if it had hit a person, police said.

Avon Lake police scoured the city looking for signs of a car accident. Then Cleveland Clinic Avon called dispatch and said a man had just arrived in the emergency room and appeared to have been hit by a car.

After investigating, police believe the 18-year-old hit the injured man at the intersection of Electric Bouleveard and Beachwood Avenue. The injured man was riding a motorized bicycle when he was struck by the 18-year-old's Mercury Mountaineer.

The injured man called a friend, who drove him to the hospital, where police spoke with him.

An Avon Lake police spokesperson said the department is still investigating the accident. The condition of the injured man is not yet known.
