Stolen Property Found During Avon Lake Traffic Stop: Police

Police said they found stolen property on a dump truck they stopped this month.

AVON LAKE, OH — Police recovered a stolen validation decal on the back license plate of a Ford dump truck this month. The driver has been charged with receiving stolen property.

Officers stopped a 1999 Ford F350 on Walker Road, near Miller Road, at 6:45 a.m. on April 4. The truck didn't have wheel protectors, police said.

After investigating, police discovered the truck had a fake rear license plate. The validation decal on the rear plate had been reported stolen by the Cleveland Police Department.

The driver, a 31-year-old Cleveland man, was taken into custody for receiving stolen property and traffic violations, police said. The Ford dump truck was towed from the scene.

The case was filed in the Avon Lake Municipal Court on April 8 and the driver appeared in court on April 9. He has entered a not guilty plea and has requested court appointed counsel, according to Avon Lake Municipal Court records.

Bond was set at $2,500.
