Woman Fends Off Carjacker With Pocket Knife: Elyria Police

Now investigators are asking the public for help identifying the would-be carjacker.

ELYRIA, OH β€” A man that threatened to stab a woman for her car is being sought by Elyria Police. Anyone that has information on the man's whereabouts should contact investigators.

On late Wednesday night, a woman pulled into the Speedway on 990 E. Broad Street. She got out of her car and then tried to get back in. That's when the suspect approached her and asked for directions. The charade was quickly dropped though.

He told the woman to get out of her car and then threatened to stab her. He then tried to force his way into her car.

Luckily, the woman had a pocket knife and used it to attack the man. She then drew the attention of other people nearby and the suspect took off running.

Police said the man may have been hurt in the encounter, but it's unclear if he suffered any injuries. He was last seen running south on E. Broad Street.

The suspect is a white man, standing 5 feet 10 inches, with a stocky build. He was wearing a blue jacket with red, plaid pants and white and black tennis shoes.

Anyone with information on the man's identity or the incident should contact Elyria Police.
